Spellbinder 2013

Once again, we were extremely lucky to receive a visit from Spellbinder, ably assisted by John. Spellbinder has captivated the children at school with his fabulous story telling abilities on previous occasions and today was no exception, as can be seen from the photos below.

KS2 enjoyed stories of dragons, princes and fantasy figures in the morning and KS1 were captivated by fairy tales and folk stories in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, due to ill health, Spellbinder lady was unable to join us this year, but Kelsale school wishes her well and we send our love and and hope for a speedy recovery for her.

Paired reading 2013

First blog post of the year.  A little while coming but now we have settled back into the school year, I hope I will have many more opportunities to blog.

Class 1 and 5 have 'buddied up' for paired reading sessions once a week.  The older child hears the younger child read.  They ask questions about their reading book and discuss the pictures together.  They then spend time looking at picture books and library books.  As you can see from the pictures below, the time is enjoyed by all the children and a lovely relationship developed between the two children.  This gives the new foundation children an older and familiar face in the playground and maintains the family feel of the school despite it's increase in size.

Blessing Service 2013

On this blistering hot Monday morning, the children alongside staff, parents, friends and family snaked their way to the church for the Leaver's Blessing service.

Rev. Andy lead the congregation in song and prayer and the Year 6 children read out a selection of their memories from their school career. Rev. Andy blessed the children ready for their new path onto a new school as well as blessings for Miss Ward and Mrs Pugh, both whom will be leaving us tomorrow.
A lovely, emotional service as a prelude to our leavers assembly tomorrow.

KS1 Trip to Minsmere

Sorry for the late post, but Mrs Gill took a lot of many very beautiful photos that took a while for us both to sort out.

KS1 had a fabulous and very hot day out at Minsmere on Wednesday.  They spent the day pond dipping, beach combing and den building as well as other wonderful activities.  The staff were very kind, friendly and informative and, as usual, the children were extremely well behaved.

A big thank you to all the adult helpers who made the day possible.

KS1 swimming demonstration and school picnic 2013

Parents of children in KS1 were invited to watch their children swim on Tuesday this week to see just how confident the children had become in the school pool.  The weather was absolutely glorious.

This was followed by the School's annual picnic, where parents, relatives and friends could bring a picnic lunch with rugs to sit and enjoy each other company on the school field.  There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and some very delicious looking lunches!

Eggs and Chicks.

Once again, the Hall family provided the school with, what we hoped would be, fertilised eggs to incubate and hatch at school.  The incubators were placed in Classes 2 and 5.

On day 14 (out of 21), Andy came into school and lamped the eggs to see which of the eggs were most likely to contain chicks.

On day 20, we noticed cheeping noises coming from the eggs and tiny cracks and holes were starting to be made by the eggs occupants.
We watched eggcitedly throughout the day until finally, Sebastian was 'born'.

So far, 2 chicks have hatched in class 5 and 6 in class 2. More photos to follow.

Chick update:

A total of 9 chicks have now hatched (one with very fluffy feet).

A big thank you to the Hall family for this wonderful experience.

Seaside special lunch

On Friday, Mrs Hall cooked a lovely seaside special lunch for us before Sports and Fete Afternoon. The children took their fish and chips in bags out onto the playground and ate together on the grass and benches.
