An Antarctic Adventure

Pupils were extremely fortunate to receive a visit  from Flo Barrow.
Flo had recently returned from  her very own Antarctic adventure.  She and a group of 3 others made the, sometimes treacherous and long, journey to the South pole.  Here she worked as a Post Mistress in the Antarctic's very own Post Office whilst spending time repairing and maintaining the buildings on the Banana Belt.  She retold her stories of up close (sometimes too close) and incredible visits from the Gentoo, Adelie and Chinstrap penguins.  She shared some very special photos.

She was a fascinating and very kind lady with some amazing stories to tell.  She was very inspirational (particularly to some of our Year 6 girls) and we look forward to some possible correspondence if and when she makes the return trip to the pole.

Mr Lumb's Visit

The children in Class 1 have been learning about people who help us and thinking about the jobs they would like to do when they are older. They have spent time learning about Sir Robert Peel and how he set up the Metropolitan police. 
So far, they have learnt about the uniforms, equipment and what a policeman's job entailed  when the police force was initially set up. 

The children were very excited when Mr Lumb, who has recently retired,  came into class to share his journey as a police officer of 31 years. They excitedly tried on different hats, a gas mask and riot gear. They also saw some truncheons, handcuffs, police whistles and his medals.

Some looked more at home than others in the role of a law enforcement officer.

It was an invaluable experience to hear what it is really like to be a police officer, the types of work they do and the importance of the law. A huge thank you to Mr Lumb for giving up his spare time to reminisce with us.

Egg Decoration Day 2013

Eggstreme sports 2013 was once again a huge success. A combination of canoeing, skiing  zip wiring, catapulting and parachuting meant that some of our elaborately decorated eggs did not make it through to the end of the afternoon. Despite the bitterly cold weather, a number of parents  arrived to watch the eggs compete.  Winners were announced in each of the sports and prizes awarded.
We were surprised towards the end of the afternoon with a phone call from the Easter bunny who had heard that all the children had been working hard and collaborated well together.  It seems the bunny had hidden some bundles of eggs around the school playground.  The children eggcitedly (!) raced to find them.
A huge thank you to all those who supported the event and another enormous thank you and well done to our amazing pupils.

Mothering Sunday Service 2013

A foggy morning did not deter our, now much larger, school heading off towards the village church with staff, parents and other family members and friends.
Our 'Mothers's are amazing' service consisted of poems and songs written and performed by the children all giving thanks to our wonderful Mum's. This was followed by some information from Rev, Andy on  inspirational Mums from around the world.  A last prayer and we set off back to school for play (and a lovely cup of tea for the adults.  Despite a few minor hiccups with a stuck- in- the-mud car, all arrived safely back to school.
