Owltime

A fantastic morning of Owls.  Siara and Jenna from Owltime (http://www.owltime.co.uk/) came into school this morning with 5 of their fabulous friends:
A barn owl called Casper
A eagle owl called Sundara
A tawny owl called Woody
A white faced scops owl called Perry
and the very small but very cute little owl called Pippin.

We had a very interesting and informative assembly where both Siara and Jenna gave use some information on owls, particularly species which live in the British Isles and then, after break, were treated to a flying display where Casper, Perry and Sundara had the opportunity to show us just how beautiful they really are.
All children (and staff) then had the chance to have a photograph taken with Casper.  These photos will be sent to school by Owltime and will be available to purchase (price yet unknown).  The money raised by the photos allows Jenna and Siara to continue educating children around the country on how we can ensure the safety of these beautiful animals.  Photos taken by Mrs Gill of the animals in all their glory can be seen below.

A huge thank you to Owltime.

Class 5 volcano videos

Class 5's Roman Homework

This term, KS2 topic has been 'Journeys'.  As pat, of this topic, we have focused on a study of Ancient Roman history, and in particular, the story of the City of Pompeii.  The city was destroyed by a volcanic eruption, resulting in a pyroclastic flow in AD 79.
For homework, the children chose a variety of ways to develop their own learning through research, DT (making and baking), science experiments and literacy and, in the case of one group of boys, the entire city of Pompeii created on Minecraft .
The quality of work was so impressive and fascinating that we spent the afternoon, appreciating each other's efforts.  As a finale, we took our Mount Vesusvius' outside and recreated the great eruption of AD 79, this time using a combination of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

Below, you can see some pictures of the work of the children.  Please look and enjoy.

Egg decoration day

Another fantastic example of what makes Kelsale School such a special place.
A beautiful day, fantastic adult helpers and any many boiled eggs later and the children's DT efforts were impressive.  Judging the winners was 'eggstremely' difficult but prizes were awarded.
Huge thanks to all who helped and provided eggs and equipment for the children.

Mother's day service 2014

A beautiful spring morning saw all children strolling down to Church for a service to thank all Mum's for all they say and do.  The children read poems, showed pictures, sang songs and read prayers.

Swimming gala 2014

It has been some time since the last blog due to a very busy term, but the Swimming Gala needed its very own blog.  I am still bursting with both adrenaline and pride from the fantastic performance of our swimming team.
4 boys and 4 girls from years 4-6 went to Leiston leisure centre last night to compete in the gala.  The children excelled in a series of individual and relay races and won places in 6 of the 8 finals, including an annihilation of the field in the mixed medley relay.
We waited, with anticipation, for the final results to be announced, not expecting to be placed but happy with our achievements.  To our surprise, Kelsale was called into 3rd place.  With screams of delight, the team rushed forward to collect their certificates.

We are so proud of the teams achievements, mainly due to the sportsmanship and effort displayed.  Huge congratulations team!
